SWAT 4 Wiki

St. Michael's Medical Center is the tenth mission in SWAT 4 and the fourteenth mission in SWAT: Elite Force. The SWAT team is now responsible for dealing with an international crisis when Hyun-Jun Park, a South Korean diplomat, was besieged by a group of well-armed terrorists in a hospital following an earlier unsuccessful attack that wounded him at a restaurant.

Mission Briefing[]

Alright, men, we have an international incident on our hands. Hyun-Jun Park is a South Korean diplomat. Earlier today he was attacked by six gunmen while exiting a restaurant. Mr. Park was injured in the attack, although his personal security got him to safety. The gunmen escaped after the initial attack. Mr. Park was routed to St. Michael's Medical Center for emergency treatment. Since there wasn't time to secure the hospital, Mr. Park's security accompanied him into the patient ward.

Mr. Park is one of the senior officials attached to the South Korean embassy; he has been addressing the United Nations for the last two days during the current round of reunification talks. Mr. Park is a major advocate in favor of reunification; he is one of the primary voices in the South Korean delegation. We assume this attack is related to his political intentions, but we don't know who was behind it. Whoever they were, they were very well equipped and well organized, ambushing Mr. Park in a location not on his official travel itinerary.

Now St. Michael's has been rushed by a group of gunmen; presumably the same ones who attacked Mr. Park earlier. They are well armed, and are moving straight through the hospital in an attempt to locate their target. They are not interested in taking hostages, and they've been brutal in their attack on the hospital. Choose your entry, get your gear together, and get in there.

Entries and Snipers []

The hospital features two rather distinctive entry points, one that accesses the main foyer and the other that accesses the hallway from the research wing. Considering the high difficulty of the level, the choice of an entry point may be vital for success.

There are no suitable places for snipers in this map.

Map Layout[]

The intel provided on this mission is very accurate in decribing the layout of the location. However the fact that the walls and the doors are mostly made out of glass, plus the furniture that cluttered the rooms are omitted from the briefing.

The mission's main focus is the Intensive Care Unit of the St. Michael’s Medical Center rather than the whole hospital. As mentioned in the briefing it is an old hospital that recently has been modernized and expanded. It contains unknown number of floors and wards, but it is known the The Intensive Care Unit contains two floors: the first floor and the basement. On the first floor of the hospital's ICU ward are the front foyer located on side 1 and hospital's reception where the patients and visitors could register themselves. There are many posters It's worth to mention that the whole ward is filled with medical posters depicting human body, internal organs or dangers of overdosing drugs. Not far from the reception is the waiting room, located on side 2 with several chairs and bench seats so the visitors could wait in comfort for their families or loved ones who are in the ward or simply watch one of many TVs. Right next to the waiting room is the staircase to the basement. Behind the reception there is a door which leads to nurses' station filled with syringes, gauze, surgical masks, medicines and other medical equipment. In the reception area there are also elevators, four pictures with the founders of St. Michael's Medical Center and the double doors that lead to the ICU ward. In the ward there are several rooms for the patients. These rooms are equipped with various facilities for patients such as curtains, cupboards or TV sets. One of the rooms is adapted more for children since apart from normal equipment there are several pictures with animals on the walls, balloons and toys. Apart from the patient rooms there is also a radiology file desk and the room in which the X-rays are being held and analyzed which are located on side 4. Behind the radiology file desk there are a double doors, which are located on side 3 that lead to research ward of St. Michael’s Medical Center.

The basement level serves mostly as a morgue area, storage area and a locker room with showers for nurses and doctors. The morgue is located towards the direction of the research wing, while the locker room and the showers are located under the reception area.

Tactical Approach[]

There are two types of suspects on this map. The first type are the terrorists that are heavily armed with combat shotguns, submachine guns and assault rifles while equipped with body armors but without gas masks. The second type are Hyun-Jun Park's body guards that are armed with machine pistols while wearing blue suits. Despite the faction differences, both sides will mingle instead of trade fires against each other.

In most cases, the secondary entrance from the research wing is the preferred approach as it directly sweeps through the entire building in a linear manner. All types of the suspects are without gas masks hence the liberal use of CS Gas will be proven beneficial.

A few portions of the center, especially the lower floor of the building, are interconnected and often have two or more alternative entries, making it essential to wedge certain doors (or lock them in the case of the SWAT: Elite Force). Another feature of the level that increases the difficulty is the presence of numerous large windows that expose the team while allows the suspects to see and shoot through. Similar small windows are found atop of doors. The player must avoid being out flanked by the suspects via the windows, while be ready to swiftly barge into the rooms to save civilians from being executed by spooked suspects.

Hyun-Jun Park is generally found either in the patient rooms of side 2 or anywhere in the lower floor. Accompanying him will be his body guards who will most likely comply with the officers when ordered to do so. However in the SWAT 4: The Stetchkov Syndicate expansion, if the body guards attempted to flee after having complied they will refuse to do so again unless forced by less lethal means.

Changes in Elite Force[]

  • The suspect behaviors and loadouts have recieved a significant overhaul which are listed below:
    • The terrorists now carry a greater variety of weapons such as M249 SAW Light Machine Guns, SCAR-H assault rifles, SG552 Commando assault rifles, MP5KA4 machine pistols and XDM pistols in addition to the default loadouts. HK53 SMG, G36C Assault Rifles and Skorpion machine pistols are also removed.
    • The terrorists now start to attach supressors to their weapons, such as MP5SD6 SMG, Suppressed Uzi, Suppressed MP5A4 SMG, Suppressed SG552 Commando and Suppressed MP5KA4 SMG.
    • The terrorists now start to wear medium and heavy armors that offers significantly better protection than the vanilla light armors worn by other suspects. Taking the AP ammo introduced in SWAT: Elite Force is now a must.
    • Instead of hunkering down and hide, the terrorists are more likely to rush the player’s location and engage the SWAT once a loud commotion is detected. This can result in a large number of terrorists attacking the player the moment the team enters the hospital. The terrorists are also made insane i.e. they are less hesitant to kill hostages when they are compelled to do so.
    • Hyun-Jun Park's body guards are now armed with P226 pistol only and are made polite i.e. less likely to shoot civilians.
  • Incapacitated civilians and Hyun-Jun Park's body guards can bleed out and become DOA if not reported in time, which results in forfeiting the "All civilians unharmed" score bonus.
  • This mission unlocks the P226 pistol and its suppressed variant.

Trivia[]

  • St. Michael's Medical Center is the only map in the entire game series to feature civilians that begin as declared dead or DOA's. This is made by the terrorists' brutal attack on hospital as they weren't interested in taking hostages.
  • At the beginning of the mission where the team spots the television with the news reporter revealing their entry, the player requests TOC to cut the cable connection to prevent alarming the suspects. Numerous such televisions are located in the building, yet none of the suspects will be made aware of the team's presence and they will still be shocked or surprised after their encounter with the team. If the player were to shoot the television before it completed the broadcast, the player's conversation with TOC does not occur.
  • The suspects of this mission are perhaps the only ones to bear an oddly similar appearance to the Officers. Additionally, they do not appear as an available archetype in the Quick Mission Maker as well.
  • The political motivations of the terrorists are kept deliberately ambiguous in the game. One of the terrorists dialogue line will have the terrorists insult the SWAT officers as imperialists, while the other dialogue lines will express their suprise that the SWAT team is not on their side, or hinting that they are protected by powerful people who target Mr. Park for being a "traitor".
  • The ambient background music on this level is very similar to Resident Evil 4’s infiltration theme.
